The 3 day detox plan

Our modern day lives are hectic and fast paced, leaving us with little time for the important things in life like the buying and preparation of quality food and as a consequence we tend to eat more and more processed food. These days a lot of people are medically overweight or even obese without even knowing it! Are you overweight? Click here and take the simple healthy weight test.

Even when we do manage to prepare our own food, if it is not certified organic then it is highly likely to be contaminated with additives, preservatives, pesticides, fertilisers, growth hormones and antibiotics. Couple the above with polluted air, polluted water, smoking, excessive caffeine and alcohol over many years and it becomes no surprise to you that your body is crying out for help!!!

The 3 day detox plan is my favoured programme and the reasons for this are simple. Any less than 3 days and your body doesn't have enough time to clear out the toxins, any more and you can start to harm yourself due to a lack of energy and protein. Symptoms like muscle fatigue, tiredness and irritability will quickly follow and then you are likely to go on a junk binge or become malnourished, defeating the whole purpose of the detox.

The key to success in detox is preparation and positive mental attitude! I can certainly help you with the preparation but the positive mental attitude is something that needs to come from within yourself - A self generated will to succeed. The first three or four times you detox WILL be a challenge because your brain will be craving all manner of substances it normally receives daily and when the brain doesn't get them it will start trying to deceive you - You will see what I mean - but stick to the programme and the results are worth every bit of effort.

Preparation: First off you need to pick a time to start your detox. Book some time off work if you can - this will allow you to focus on the detox and take long walks in the fresh air - If not, then Thursday is good because you can detox Thursday to Saturday and then rest and recover on Sunday. A detox can be quite a strain until you get used to it and you will need a rest day for your body to recover from the effects.

If you do smoke then you need to quit for at least 1 month before attempting the detox. It will be hard enough to cope with the lack of food without the added burden of cigarette cravings. There are 400+ chemicals in cigarettes that are really bad for you and your liver will need at LEAST 1 month of abstinence to adjust your blood components to something resembling normal. Quitting smoking is the single most important thing you will EVER do to improve your health. Click here for free professional help and guidance should you need it.

If you are a regular drinker of alcohol you need to have abstained for at least 2 weeks before you begin the detox. The reasons for this are to allow your liver time to adjust your blood chemistry to normal and to give your body a chance to hydrate properly as regular drinkers are usually dehydrated! If you are concerned over the amount of alcohol you consume then click here for free information and advice. If you are a heavy alcohol user then please DO NOT attempt any detox unless recommended by a Doctor as alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous if unsupervised!!!

Keep a detox diary so you can make sure of what you are eating and write down how you feel during difficult times so you can trace back any triggers of failure. Remember: A DETOX IS MEANT TO INVIGORATE AND REFRESH YOU, it is not a punishment!!! Please keep this in your mind.

Buy in the food and water you need to complete the detox and try to remove as much junk food and drinks from the house as you can. This will provide good mental signals to your brain (which will be trying to deceive you) that you are serious about this!

You are now ready.

What you will need:
12 apples
12 carrots
1 broccoli (split into 3 portions)
1 cauliflower (split into 3 portions)
3 lemons
1 500g Bag of short grain brown rice
9 Litres of good quality mineral or triple filtered water

The detox day: Here goes. Follow this daily routine to the letter for three days, simple as 1, 2, 3!

Morning preparation: As soon as you wake squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into a mug and fill with hot (not boiling) water. drink this and then wait at least a half hour before having breakfast.

Breakfast: Before 9AM have 1 apple.

Mid morning snack: Around 10:30AM have 1 carrot washed but not peeled.

Lunch: Around 1PM have 2 apples.

Mid afternoon snack: Around 3PM have 1 carrot washed but not peeled.

Dinner: Around 6PM have 100g of boiled rice with lightly steamed cauliflower, broccoli and carrots.

Supper: Around 9PM have 1 apple.

And that is it! The three day detox. It is simple and VERY effective. Remember: Do NOT eat anything other than the above list. Drink freely throughout the day but it is very important to drink ONLY water and at least 2 litres a day to detox properly. The times are approximate but try to keep as close to them as you can.

Good luck!!! The detox is not easy and will require a lot of will power and determination but I guarantee you will feel amazing, drained but amazing. I recommend that you follow this detox every three months until you are used to it and then on a monthly basis. Do NOT follow this detox more than once a month because there is no need and you will not gain anything from it.

Tip: For the first three days after the detox rebuild your food intake SLOWLY as your digestive system will have undergone change and will need to adjust. I suggest a light breakfast like cereal (with warm water not milk) and fruit juice followed by a simple protein rich lunch like; tuna or chicken salad with some wholegrain bread for carbs and an evening meal consisting of something like; steamed chicken/fish a jacket potato and loads of steamed vegetables. Combine this monthly detox with a healthy diet, lots of exercise, daily juicing and you will be well on the way to superior health!!!

I recommend that you use free range and organic produce for every recipe, diet, juice and detox found within this site. There is no substitute for good quality food!
